HydroFlex was proud to receive the 2002 Technical Achievement Award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences,“for the design and development of the Remote AquaCam, an underwater camera housing system for use in motion pictures.”We extend our sincerest thanks to the members of the Academy for this recognition of our efforts.

2002 Excellence in Cinematography Award

from the Association of Independent Commercial Producers (AICP)

In 2002, The Association of Independent Commercial Producers (AICP) honored Pete Romano for “Excellence in Cinematography”, as the Underwater Director of Photography on the Pocari “Tennis” spot. This commercial is now part of the permanent collection of the Department of Film and Media at the Museum of Modern Art, New York.

1996 Technical Achievement Awards

HydroFlex was proud to receive the 1996 Technical Achievement Award from the Society of Camera Operators, “for the introduction and development of the HydroFlex 35-3 underwater camera housing systems in 1985 which significantly contributed to the art and craft of the camera operator.” We extend our sincerest thanks to the members of the SOC for this recognition of our efforts.

In 1988, HydroFlex president Pete Romano and his partner at the time, Richard Mula, developed the SeaPar series of underwater lights which were used extensively on “The Abyss”. In 1991, the SeaPar 1200W HMI received a Technical Achievement Award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences. The Award reads as follows: “The SeaPar 1200w HMI provides safe, portable HMI light fixture which may be used on either wet or dry sets. In underwater applications it may be used to a depth of 240 feet. Its power supply is equipped with a ground fault circuit interrupter to insure the safety of personnel.”
